Objectivos
This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the characteristics, valuation techniques, and strategic roles alternative investments (private equity, natural resources and land, infrastructure, intellectual property, commodities and commodity derivatives, hedge funds and digital assets) play within the broader context of portfolio management. By the end of this course, students will be able to: - understand the characteristics, functioning and valuation of the main categories of alternative investments, including investments in commodities and commodities derivatives, natural resources and land, infrastructure, intellectual property, private equity, hedge funds and digital assets. - understand their unique risk-return profiles and role in portfolio diversification and formulate basic strategies for investing in or allocating to these alternatives. - understand the specific risks associated with each category and approaches to mitigate them.

December Evaluation Continuous Evaluation: 3 Quizzes (30%) * Class Participation (Case Studies) (10%) ** Final Exam (60%) January Evaluation 100% Final Exam * Completion of all 3 Quizzes is mandatory for December Evaluation. Online Quizzes each take ~40 minutes and will be held through Google Forms (link available to students at the date of the Quiz). Quizzes will be held on the following dates Quiz 1: 3rd October 18:00 Quiz 2: 24th October 18:00 Quiz 3: 14th November 18:00 ** Timely access to each of the case studies will be given prior to the corresponding lecture through a link on the course web page. Students are expected to read and prepare the case in full, including both a summary and responses to the guiding questions, to actively contribute to the class discussion.
