Objectivos
General objectives: - To develop ISEG/ULisboa students? communicative competence in writing in English; - To provide techniques and practice exercises for students to improve their written communication in English; - To develop students? understanding of genres (standard text types). Learning outcomes: - To understand the relations between the socio-cultural context of a written text, genres and lexico-grammatical resources in English; - To produce short and coherent texts in English.

Cohesive devices; - Register (tenor): a. Nominalization; b. Making the subjective sound objective. - Academic writing: a. Written answers in tests and exams; b. Essays and assignments; c. Dissertations & theses; d. Paraphrasing & summarizing. - Writing in the workplace: a. Letters; b. Paper vs email; c. Reports.
