Data Mining: classification exercises

In this lecture the students have learnt how to use the data mining tool "KNIME Analytics Platform". Therefore, they have worked on three exercises to solve a classification task (training and validation). Then, the trained model has been evaluated and used for class prediction of new data (generalization). Three different classification methods have been applied: Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, and Artificial Neural Network (Multilayer Perceptron, RProp algorithm).

Data Mining: Cluster analysis and association rule mining

In this lecture the students have learnt the differences between classification and cluster analysis. Two common algorithms have been presented: hierarchical agglomerative clustering and k-means. Two exercises have been done by the students to enhance their knowledge. Then, association rule mining has been addressed and the evaluation criteria "support", "confidence" and "lift" have been introduced. The Apriori algorithm has been shown by example. Finally the students have solved a typical market basket analysis task by using KNIME Analytics.
