Licenciatura Bolonha em Management

The objectives of the Economic Sociology course are: to address a set of economic themes and topics (wealth, value, money, work, markets, capitalism, decision-making processes) from a sociological lens that proves to be complementary, as well as, in certain cases, an alternative to the vision of the economy epitomized by Lionel Robbin’s famous definition; to introduce a series of concepts characteristic of a sociological approach to the economic and financial universe (holism, methodological individualism, embeddedness, isomorphism, performativity, among others) and illustrate them with contemporary examples; to familiarize students with the different methodological approaches practiced in economic sociology (theoretical analysis, historical research, qualitative inquiries, etc.); to encourage close reading of key-texts and critical reflection around ideas, concepts and case-studies.

Licenciatura Bolonha em Economics

This course provides a short introduction to the sociological endeavour as both an academic/scientific discipline and a perspective through which to view and analyse the social world. During the semester, the students will be exposed to classical and contemporary sociological theories, sociological concepts and basic social sciences vocabulary. The sociological framework will be applied to the study of social groups, organizations, social processes, institutions and common social problems. Sociology will give us tools do demystify taken for granted assumptions, clarify social paradoxes, illustrate the uses and misuses of social labels and common speeches. The entire course will be a work in progress application of the ?sociological imagination? to some of the social issues that dominate the current world.
