The objective of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the economics of cities and urbanization. It addresses some of the main issues in urban economies, including urban land use, urban sprawl, urban transportation, housing and real estate, and urban public economics. The course contributes directly to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality; GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; GOAL 12: GOAL 13: Climate Action. Students learn about urban economic theory and practice through the analysis and discussion of papers addressing important urban policy problems. Students put knowledge into practice by carrying out individual and group exercises focused on selected urban problems currently affecting cities and urban areas.
