- X is a continuous random variable and Y is an increasing function of X and continuous;

-  X is a continuous random variable and Y is a decreasing function of X and continuous ;

- X is a continuous random variable and Y is a mixed random variable;

-  X is a continuous random variable and Y is a discrete random variable.
