Session 6 (28th October), we will discuss the challenges that the current liberal order is facing in the political and social spheres and how the pandemics might have (or not) exarcebated the trends. In particular, we will discuss how the emergence of inequality is underming liberal democracies and helping the rise of authoritarism as well as how civil liberties are increasingly under threat by populist forces pushing for a more polarised and less free public space.

In this session, we will first discuss the emergence of Asia and how it (is) might challenge what has been mostly an American and European-driven world order since the late 19th century. It will also focus on the increasingly and diversified tech-driven securitised global arena.

Session 3 will be divided in two and they will be dedicated to an important rising issue on economic livelihoods: the future nature of work . We will discuss work as an increasingly non- predictable and precarious activity and reflect on the changing socioeconomic structures sustaining the world of work.
