Mestrado Bolonha em Innovation and Research for Sustainability

The topics covered aim to: (i) Provide students with an analytical understanding of the role that scientific research policy can play in sustainable development, for both higher and lower income contexts, including (but not limited to) its importance in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. (ii) Support reflection about the rationale behind governments investing in research capacity in their countries, what are the policy instruments they can use, and what are the major challenges and trade-offs they face. (iii) Provide a solid conceptual framework for analysing research and its relationship with sustainable development, as well as information about sources of data and relevant quantitative and qualitative techniques to carry out research analysis. (iv) Apply theoretical concepts and empirical evidence on key contemporary issues such as the relation between research priorities and societal demands, or the influence of research in the debate about climate change.
